Volkswagen Motorsport heads to Zwartkops for Extreme Festival
Rookie Chris Tait is keen to continue his impressive 30th Anniversary Astron Energy Polo Cup run, while Volkswagen Motorsport SATC SupaCup teammate Rory Atkinson is keen to end his season on a high as the team returns to Zwartkops for the National Extreme Festival on Saturday 17 October.
“Following the unfortunate cancellation of the sixth round, Volkswagen Motorsport has negotiated to shift the 30th Anniversary Astron Energy Polo Cup Finals to the Kyalami 9 Hour weekend of 14 November,” Volkswagen Head of Motorsport Mike Rowe explains. “So while this Zwartkops weekend will be the final round of the SATC SupaCup, the Astron Energy Polo Cup still has two rounds to race.
“Getting back to the team, Rory and Chris were second in both SATC SupaCup and in the previous round, so we head to Zwartkops looking to take that last step up the podium on both sides of the garage. Best of luck to both drivers and the whole Volkswagen Motorsport team.”
“Our SATC SupaCup campaign has been solid, but it’s a long time since we won, so the plan is to end the season on a high,” Astron Energy Polo Cup champion and Volkswagen SupaPolo rookie Rory Atkinson points out. “We still have a very small mathematical chance to steal the title, but that needs the leader not to score and us to do a grand slam, so this one’s more about chasing a win and enjoying the weekend. Thanks to my great team for a fine season and here’s to a great finale in Pretoria.”
Christopher Tait has enjoyed a positive recent run following an unlucky start to his season. “It took a bit of time to get it all running smoothly,” Chris explains. “But I’ve scored a second place so far this season and we’ve enjoyed good form in recent races, so let’s see if we can go one better this weekend. Zwartkops is my home track, so it’s the perfect place to make it happen. Come on team, let’s do this!”
“We are looking forward to another positive Volkswagen Motorsport weekend at Zwartkops,” Mike Rowe concludes. “We plan to give our Gauteng fans and friends something to cheer for. See you at Zwartkops!”
