MasterDrive Driver Search breaks barriers

The MasterDrive Driver Search is well underway as the Simola Hillclimb draws ever nearer.

This year saw a record number of aspiring racers entering the initiative. As many as 195 completed the initial entry which was then whittled down to 15. Now these drivers will be shortlisted to five before the ultimate winner is revealed.

An objective of the MasterDrive Driver Search is to ensure that entrants are individuals not ordinarily exposed to or have opportunities in motorsport. The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says: “While there is a burning passion for motorsport, many face substantial barriers to entry - whether financially or due to limited opportunities.

“The exclusivity of motorsport often equates to many missed opportunities to develop talented drivers. MasterDrive Driver Search continues to bridge this gap, providing a pathway for talented individuals who might otherwise never have the chance to pursue their motorsport dreams,” says Herbert.

The General Manager of Coastal Regions, Eugene ‘Gino’ Nourse, says in its third consecutive year, the MasterDrive Driver Search continues to grow in recognition and a growing desire to be a part of the initiative. “It also successfully achieves a core objective which is to expand and include a national representation of drivers. This year's group brings together passionate motorsport enthusiasts from across the country.

“Additionally, it shows the passion for the sport with many entrants sharing a common ardour.  Most were introduced to motorsport through fathers and older brothers. An encouraging development is the significant surge in female participation. Significantly more females entered compared to previous years. This is a positive shift in a traditionally male-dominated sport.”

MasterDrive Driver Search is entering its crucial selection phase as the coveted top five positions are selected. “This marks the beginning of an bespoke training and evaluation process that will ultimately see the selection of a single winner.

“Those successfully progressing to the next round can expect the journey to intensify. Candidates will face brief interviews as part of the knockout phase. All those that were interviewed must keep an eye on their communications to be sure they do not miss contact from the team.”

After this, training begins. “This includes theoretical sessions as well as practical training. Part of this will be on track behind the wheel. The driver selected as the top entrant will be well-prepared to join the Simola team this year.”

The growing number of applicants each year serves as a powerful testament to the significance and impact of the MasterDrive Driver Search. “It plays a vital role in increasing access to motorsport, proving that talent knows no boundaries - whether geographical, financial, or gender-based,” says Nourse.

Updates regarding the selection process will be shared across all social media platforms.
