Toyota Gazoo Racing's Junior Academy did their regional karting aspirations no harm with several good performances at Vereeniging Raceway this past weekend following Round 3 of the Northern Regions Kart Championships.
Tshepang Shisinwana, the academy's youngest driver, showcased his potential in the Mini MAX class with a promising start. He secured victories in the first two heats, setting himself up for a potential clean sweep. However, a setback on the opening lap of the final heat prevented him from achieving this feat, leaving the former national champion to finish second overall.
In the Senior MAX category, Kent Swartz continued to assert his dominance with another stellar performance. The class rookie extended his lead in the regional championship standings, securing the overall win with two victories and a third-place finish. His consistent performance is a clear indication of his skill and potential.
Jason Coetzee and Karabo Malemela finished first and second in the premier DD2 class. Coetzee secured two wins and a runner-up finish, placing him at the top of the round. Malemela recorded three podium finishes, with a best finish of second place. Both drivers remain in the fight for the regional championship honours.
With the regional competition yet to reach its halfway mark, the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championship is set to resume with Round 4 on 22 June at Zwartkops Kart Raceway.
