In the US, Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4 wins the 2024 Green SUV of the Year™ award

The Green Car Journal magazine has awarded the Alfa Romeo Tonale the coveted title of 2024 Green SUV of the Year™.

The Tonale is Alfa Romeo’s first C-SUV, available with Plug-In Hybrid technology and standard Q4 all-wheel-drive, specifically designed to ensure maximum traction and safety. Green Car Journal editors appreciated Tonale’s Italian style, driving dynamics, functionality and high-tech interior.

“Alfa Romeo’s Tonale offers an exciting and sporty way of driving an electric vehicle,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com. “For the first 49 miles you’re driving a stylish and iconic Italian electric vehicle with zero emissions. Beyond that, if the day’s needs call for going further, the Plug-In Q4 hybrid powertrain has an overall driving range of more than 372 miles and delivers a fulfilling journey without worrying about needing a charge.”

The Alfa Romeo Tonale is the most efficient Plug-In Hybrid Q4 C-SUV in the segment. The advanced powertrain system uses the 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission, providing traction to the front wheels.
Its efficiency and performance are also bolstered and ensured in electric mode by a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery that drives an electric motor with a peak power output of 90 kW and torque of 250 Nm. The total output is the best in its class: 280 horsepower.

“With best-in-class horsepower of 285 and a full electric range of more than 49 miles, the Tonale is a perfect example of how Alfa Romeo aims to combine efficiency with the characteristic sporty character that the Alfa Romeo brand is known for,” said Larry Dominique, SVP, head of Alfa Romeo North America. “The Tonale is just the first step in the brand’s electrification journey, which evolves while staying true to the distinctive Italian DNA and style our customers love.”
