MasterDrive in association with Santam Heavy Haulage and Castrol concluded another successful Transport Month event yesterday. The annual event started seven years ago as a way to bring road safety issues to the forefront of Transport Month from a multitude of perspective.
The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says the event is riding on the wave of last year’s successful, ‘Driving the Influence’ event, which seeks to drive motorists to change risky behaviour on the roads. “In 2022, the focus was on the danger of drink driving and the impact it has during the Festive Season. Attendees signed MasterDrive’s pledge committing to never drink and drive.
“This year the event’s theme ‘Corporate accountability: driving safety in fleets’ brought focus to safety issues ahead of the Festive Season from the perspectives of various stakeholders in road safety. The speakers addressed important safety issues related to three specific industries. A number of eye-awakening facts were revealed that bring a very real face to road tragedy.
The panel discussion was entitled, ‘Treading the Influence.’ “It provided greater understanding of why correct tyre care is essential, particularly ahead of holiday trips. The topic was discussed at length dispelling myths about tyres and making drivers think twice about risky decisions when it comes to tyre care.
“It was also a prime opportunity to launch an initiative similar to last year’s pledge. As from yesterday, both individuals and commercial drivers, can access safety tips on the MasterDrive website.”
These were compiled by MasterDrive, Castrol, Santam and SATMC. It is a comprehensive list of tips that consider every challenge a driver could experience on the road – whether driving your family to their annual holiday or driving through the holiday period delivering the increased orders of retail providers.
You can access these tips by visiting www.mastertdrive.co.za. Under the resources tab you will find a link to Holiday Travel Tips. On this page you can peruse through the tips for either individual or commercial drivers.
A heartfelt thank you is given to all associates participating as a partner, presenter, panellist or contributor to goodie bags and prizes. “Your support made the power of spreading a road safety message this Transport Month that transcends industries and which will help drivers make safe choices during this incredibly busy period on the road.
“Until the next event sharing information and tips on road safety, MasterDrive wishes you a well-rested and safe end to the year,” says Herbert.
