Bakwena’s Mandela Day celebrations

Mandela Day is an annual global celebration to honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela and is a call to action for individuals, communities, and organisations to take time to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles and to make a positive impact in their own communities.

With this in mind Bakwena, the toll concessionaire responsible for managing 385km of the N1N4 route in South Africa, spent Mandela Day focussing on three organisations namely Odirile Disability Centre, Pat Rico and Tender Loving Care Old Age homes in Hammanskraal.

They focussed on uplifting and making life a little easier for these three organisations by providing toys to bring joy, blankets, to keep the winter chill at bay as well as rechargeable lamps to keep the lights on.

The day was topped off with a warm meal and some celebratory cake. These organisations along with various clinics in the area have also received bottled/purified water assistance from Bakwena due to the recent cholera outbreak in Hammanskraal.

Bakwena’s corporate social investment (CSI) policy focuses on four pillars, namely, Road Safety, Health, Environment and Heritage and Social Economic Development. “For us every day is a celebration of Mandela and all that he represented.

We believe that we have a responsibility as a business not only to build, maintain and operate effective freeways, but also to have a meaningful impact on many aspects of the lives of people in the communities surrounding the routes that we operate.” concludes Solly Kganyago, Bakwena’s Chief Operations Officer.
