On Tuesday evening February 27th, 2018, Hyundai Construction Equipment Europe (HCEE) attended the Foreign Investment Trophy ceremony. With this trophy, Flanders Investment & Trade recognizes a remarkable investment made by an international company in Flanders. Minister President of Flanders Geert Bourgeois presented the trophy to Kaneka at the 6th consecutive Foreign Investment Trophy ceremony held at the Deloitte Gateway Office at Brussels Airport. HCEE is proud runner up.
Five important investors in Flanders
Hyundai Construction Equipment Europe, Axereal and subsidiary Boortmalt, Kaneka, Novartis and Sappi were nominated for the Foreign Investment of the Year Trophy 2018, but it was Kaneka that won the award. With the Foreign Investment Trophy 2018 ceremony, FIT underpins the importance of foreign investment as a key driver of economic development and a source of employment in Flanders. In 2017, foreign companies funneled EUR 2.08 billion euro into their operations in Flanders, spread across 215 new projects. These investments generated a total of 5,377 additional jobs, the highest number since 2003.
A word from FIT
“Hyundai Construction Equipment has been expanding in Flanders for years. The Korean company’s recently opened HQ in Tessenderlo has given further impetus to that trend. Without a doubt, its choice of Flanders was due to the region’s strategic, central and logistically favorable location in the heart of Europe. This makes Flanders an ideal spot for Hyundai Construction Equipment’s HQ, but also for its warehouse, European training center, event hall and showroom.” – Lothe Verstraete, deputy director of Inward Investment Greater China & Korea, FIT Brussels.
A word from HCEE
Johan Thiels, Director of Administration at HCEE, who represented HCEE at the award ceremony stated: “We’re very happy and proud we were nominated for the Foreign Investment Trophy of the Year 2018. After Hyundai Construction Equipment became an independent business unit as of 1st of April 2017, the opening of the new European headquarters in Tessenderlo end of last year, marks another major milestone in the path towards the common goal to enter the top five ranking manufacturers in the global construction equipment market by 2023.
Our solid investment in Flanders to grow our facility is a condition for increasing our success in Europe. The Tessenderlo facility is an excellent step forward for our European division. On the 81,000 square metres new land we doubled the capacity of our machine parts supply, we can now welcome our customers and intensify the commercial and technical training of our dealer network. The premises are ideally located alongside the E313 highway offering good accessibility. And last but not least, this investment will create additional jobs in the region.” It all proves that HCEE is a dynamic and growing company. This investment is a landmark in HCEE’s history in Europe.” – Johan Thiels, Director of Administration at HCEE.
