Preview: Sasol GTC2 Championship – Rd 2, Killarney, 21st April
Signature Motorsport is brimful of confidence and leading the championship standings as the team heads to Cape Town’s Killarney Raceway for round two of the Sasol GTC2 CHampionship on 21st April.
The season got off to a great start for the Ferodo-backed MINI John Cooper Works after Brad Liebenberg took a win and second place at Kyalami last month. Although not blessed with the best of luck at Killarney, Brad rates the circuit as his favourite in the country.
“Killarney has a great mix of very fast and technical sections which really brings out a driver’s skill”, said Brad. “The Cape Town crowd is usually the biggest we have anywhere in the country and the MINI team resonates with them; we enjoy great fan support”.
Predicting a winner in the hotly-contested GTC2 class is almost impossible, but Brad is confident of a strong showing: “The team is single-mindedly working to keep the momentum going. The car handles superbly so I can show up and do what I do best. I’m determined to continue our early season form but in such a competitive class, it won’t be easy. I’m really looking forward to engaging with our fans again and if all goes well, I can go home with a bigger championship lead.”
Devin Robertson’s debut in the Champion MINI John Cooper Works did not go quite as planned at Kyalami after technical difficulties; having won two national saloon car championships, Devin is delighted to be a part of the Signature MINI team and says of his new ‘home’: “The GTC2 class is very competitive and is a whole new venture for me. I took part in some amazing racing and other than my Kyalami issues which the team has sorted, look forward to being part of the leading group fighting for victory.”
“Killarney has been good to me in the past and I have many fond memories of racing there. The circuit demands a high level of commitment and I know winning won’t be easy but I will give my best as ever and hope the fans enjoy the racing”, Devin concluded.
Signature Motorsport welcomes race fans to their pits to view the Ferodo and Champion MINI John Cooper Works cars and chat to the drivers between the races.
