Over the years Bakwena has not only maintained and upgraded the N1N4 route but also ensured that it meets international engineering standards.
Since 2001, the whole of the N1N4 route (385km) has been fully rehabilitated. Technical enhancements and upgrades of the N1N4 route over the last 20 years ensures road users are provided with safe, world class infrastructure.
Some of the milestone works Bakwena has carried out during the 20-year period include:
Simon Everitt, Bakwena’s CEO, reflected on the company’s 20th anniversary by saying “as the CEO of Bakwena, it is with a sense of pride that I look back on the project’s achievements over the last 20 years. Roads form the backbone of the South African Economy and toll roads are an example of how private and government have collaborated to provide infrastructure which provides the economy with a much-needed boost. The Bakwena N1N4 route is part of the important Trans-Kalahari Corridor, a regional development corridor, providing a coast-to-coast link from Walvis Bay in Namibia to Maputo in Mozambique”.
Bakwena has an incredible team of dedicated employees who have grown and thrived with the company over the years. We look forward to continuing this exciting journey. Bakwena remains committed to ensuring the N1N4 route continues to make a difference every km of the way” concludes Everitt.
