Now in its fourth year, the Vilaca Racing Time Attack Series is a true motorsports innovation: a professionally run racing series for amateurs. With seven rounds of racing in the 2023 series, taking place across three provinces, this series of races offers owners and drivers of cars from showroom standard models to full racing vehicles, the chance to really put the pedal to the metal and show what they can do.

The Vilaca Racing Time Attack Series is the brainchild of former Red Bull athlete Jonathan Vilaca, and reflects his ongoing passion for competition – and for making the thrill of taking part available to as many people as possible.

The non-wheel-to-wheel time attack format means that drivers are racing against the clock, rather than each other. With 10 different classes, from Street FWD to Unlimited Super, there’s room for every kind of vehicle within the event.

While the time attack format is growing rapidly in popularity worldwide, the Vilaca Racing Time Attack Series remains the only amateur racing series in South Africa. As such, it’s a unique opportunity for drivers to pit their vehicles and skills against all comers in the quest for one of the coveted trophies.

The first round of racing in the 2023 series takes place on Saturday, 18 March at Redstar Raceway near Delmas in Mpumalanga. Subsequent rounds will take place at major circuits and karting tracks across South Africa, including Zwartkops Raceway.

The Daily Entry category allows anyone to enter and compete for the day, simply by completing the online registration form and ensuring that their car passes the pre-race technical inspection. Helmets are compulsory.

As a high-octane racing event, each round of the Vilaca Racing Time Attack Series promises to be a great day out for all the family, with spectator tickets costing just R50 (free for under-16s). With a DJ and restaurant in addition to all the action on the track, there will be plenty to keep motorsports fans and families entertained.
