Former South African off-road car racing national champion, Richard Schilling, has been appointed Honorary President of Motorsport South Africa (MSA).

After finishing his time as a successful motorsport competitor, Schilling, a retired businessman, moved behind the scenes and has since played a significant role  in the development and management of  both MSA and motorsport in general. He was the former president of AA Motorsport (now MSA); former head of off-road racing within AA Motorsport/MSA and founding member of SANORA (now the SA Rally Raid Championship). This championship is still regarded as one of motorsports most successful championships.

Anton Roux, chairman of MSA says most recently Schilling was a director on the MSA board and former president of the FIA Cross Country Rallies Commission, responsible for that category of motorsport worldwide. Schilling, in his new role as MSA Honorary President, will no longer serve as a director of MSA but will be entitled to attend board meetings. “We thank Richard for his incredible contribution and feel reassured his wealth of experience and invaluable contribution will not be lost to MSA,” concludes Roux.
