Toyota drives equestrian sport with new FEI qualifier

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) is partnering with Highway Shows Shongweni to host an FEI World Cup Qualifier Event at the Toyota Shongweni Festival this year.

Riders will get the opportunity to compete to gain points for their FEI rankings, enabling them to qualify to compete overseas.

This is one of only a few FEI World Cup Qualifying events that takes place in South Africa, and thanks to Toyota’s sponsorship it promises to be world-class.

“Toyota’s sponsorship enabled us to bring out an FEI 3* Course Designer from Germany to build tracks for the main arena.”, says Jodi Lloyd-Fox, Show Holder and Event Organiser of Highway Shows.

“The riders gain huge experience from tracks built by international course designers, ensuring the standard is as good as the tracks abroad.”

“Having Toyota as the title sponsor has the added advantage of giving our event a high-standard status”, says Lloyd-Fox. “It makes us stand out from other events in the country. Highway Shows is very proud to be associated with Toyota.”

Many of South Africa’s top riders will be competing, including Nicole Horwood, South Africa’s Top Rider, and Lisa Williams, a previous winner of the FEI South African League who went on to compete in Europe with her horse.

Event highlights include 70cm – 1.35m jumps for Juniors, and 80cm – 1.5m jumps for Adults.

“Toyota is proud to help South African riders reach the global stage,” says Glenn Crompton, Vice President of Marketing at TSAM. “We’ve seen profound talent, focus and dedication from our local Equestrian athletes, and from the community that supports them. For us it’s an honour to help them succeed.”

The festival will take place at The Durban Shongweni Club, in Hillcrest from the 5th to the 9th of August 2022, with over 600 participants taking part. Entrance for spectators is free and there will be vendors, food stalls as well as a licenced restaurant on site.

Adult, Junior and Pony Riders of all levels are all welcome to enter.
