In the previous issue of aBr, I tested the Mercedes-Benz EQS, whereby I commented that I was not really driving a motor vehicle, but rather a plush living room. Ditto for the Volvo C40 Recharge
It looks like a car, swims like a car, and quacks like a car, then it is a car. But, to my mind, it is a mobile living room. We can talk battery power, and recharging stats, and enthuse about the lovely cabin, and the great styling, and bunny hugging recycled materials, but with no earth killing sounds and smells, it is difficult to get petrol headed. One can enthuse about the technology laden standard features, and the lightning performance, and you may also muse about the 20-inch wheels, but at the end of the day you still come back to the fact that you are simply guiding a technological marvel. Comparisons about charging times simply does not get the adrenaline going. However, the price tag of R1 285 000 will definitely get your accountant’s adrenaline spurting from his veins. As Bob Dylan would say, the times they are a’changing.
