Covid-19 lockdown: TERS funding: benefits extended to September

The Minister of Employment and Labour has extended the TERS benefit scheme to 15 September 2020.

Therefore, employers can claim on behalf of qualifying employees for the period of 16 August 2020 to 15 September 2020.

However, as was the case in the previous directive, the benefit is limited to the categories of employees where the employer:

  • is not yet permitted to operate either fully or partially due to lockdown regulations; and/or
  • is unable to implement special measures in respect of vulnerable employees or is unable to make alternative arrangements for them to work from home; and/or
  • is unable to utilise employees, either fully or partially, because of operational requirements. Operational requirements in this context seems to refer to the need to limit the number of employees in the workplace by staggering of working hours, short time, etc. as required by the regulations.

It is, at this stage, unclear as to when the applications for September will open.

We will keep members abreast of further developments in this regard.
