Suzuki Auto South Africa achieved its highest monthly sales in October 2026, reflecting ongoing demand among South African buyers for affordable, fuel-efficient and practical vehicles.
The result comes as South Africa’s new-vehicle market continues to show strong momentum, with October sales reaching 61,890 units, a 10.4% increase year-on-year. This marks the industry’s 25th consecutive month of growth and only the second time this year that monthly sales have exceeded 60,000 units.
Suzuki’s latest performance builds on the momentum established in October 2025, when the brand set its previous monthly sales record at 6,890 units.
Affordability continues to drive purchasing decisions
According to Alan Quinn, Chief Innovation and Product Officer at Cars.co.za, Suzuki’s performance reflects a broader change in how South Africans are choosing new vehicles.
“Suzuki’s all-time high is not just a sales milestone. It shows that South African buyers are making value-led decisions. People are looking at the full cost of ownership, from fuel consumption and maintenance to resale confidence and dealer support. Suzuki has built its local success around exactly those priorities,” said Quinn.
Quinn said wider market data also pointed to sustained consumer confidence.
“A market above 60,000 units, with 25 consecutive months of year-on-year growth, tells us that demand is real. But the composition of that demand matters. Buyers are still prioritising accessible mobility, and brands that can deliver quality, efficiency and value at the right price are the ones capturing that demand.”
Sustained growth in the new-vehicle market
October’s 61,890-unit total indicates that South Africa’s new-vehicle market remains in a growth phase, even as consumers continue to face pressure from rising living costs and higher borrowing rates.
Suzuki’s sales performance highlights the effectiveness of its focus on compact hatchbacks, crossovers and family vehicles, which continue to appeal to buyers seeking lower running costs and reliable daily transport.
The new all-time high builds on Suzuki’s previous October record of 6,890 units, indicating that the brand has maintained its growth trajectory.
Outlook for the coming year
The key challenge for the industry will be sustaining this momentum into 2027, especially if economic conditions remain unpredictable. October’s figures indicate that buyers are still willing to enter the new-vehicle market when products deliver clear value.
For Suzuki, the latest record is both a commercial milestone and a reflection of broader market trends, as South African buyers increasingly seek vehicles that balance affordability with practicality and everyday usability.
