As South Africa’s transport sector gathered to honour half a century of impact, innovation, and advocacy, Engen proudly stood alongside the Road Freight Association (RFA) to celebrate its 50th anniversary at the recent 2025 RFA Convention.

Held at Champagne Sports Resort in the Drakensberg from 23–25 May, Engen once again stepped up as one of the Convention’s main sponsors, underscoring its commitment to supporting the road freight industry – the very backbone of the South African economy.

This year’s event held particular significance as the RFA marked 50 years of championing the needs of the freight and logistics sector.

A proud member and long-standing partner of the RFA, Engen had the honour of sponsoring the Welcome Dinner on Friday evening, themed “Celebrate Good Times”, where industry leaders and stakeholders united to reflect on the past and chart the future.

Speaking at the celebratory dinner, Sharveen Maharaj, General Manager: Commercial at Engen, reaffirmed the company’s deep-rooted commitment to the sector:

“Engen is extremely excited to continue our longstanding partnership with the RFA. It’s a privilege to host this evening’s Welcome Dinner and to honour 50 years of excellence. To Gavin Kelly and the team at the RFA – happy 50th, and here’s to another 50 years of progress and partnership,” said Maharaj.

Maharaj also highlighted recent milestones in the evolution of the Engen brand, following its integration into Vivo Energy, who are a member of the Vitol Group, a world leader in energy.

“With Vitol being a major player in the global energy and commodities market and moving a significant portion of the world's hydrocarbons, and Vivo Energy now the largest downstream oil company in Africa – operating in 28 markets and selling over 20 billion litres per annum – Engen remains a proudly South African brand, committed to serving our transport customers with innovation and reliability.”

He added that Engen continues to invest in solutions that support and enable the logistics industry.

“Our flagship Engen Diesel Club (EDC) offering has stood the test of time. And later this year, we will be launching our new integrated fleet management solution – another step in ensuring our customers experience seamless, efficient, and future-forward fuel management.”

In keeping with the festive spirit, Engen celebrated the RFA’s historic milestone by giving away R50,000 in fuel vouchers via its 1App platform. Two lucky attendees walked away with R25,000 in free fuel each – enough to keep them moving for an entire year.

Maharaj concluded by paying tribute to the people who keep the wheels turning.

“To our drivers – who navigate potholes, unpredictable weather, and long hours with resilience – we salute your unwavering commitment. Associations like the RFA unite us, remind us of our collective strength, and are vital to building a stronger, safer, and more efficient road freight sector.”

As the Convention wrapped up, it was clear that the road ahead is full of both challenges and opportunities. But with trusted partnerships, shared values, and a relentless focus on progress, the future of the industry is in good hands.
