The Department of Employment and Labour (the Department) will be conducting consultations across all sectors on the proposed numerical sectoral employment equity targets.
The Department is well aware of NEASA’s objection to race quotas, as well as the fact that NEASA deems these ‘consultations’ to be defective in administrative and legislative nature, and merely an attempt to remedy previous errors in the process of drafting sectoral targets. NEASA will be closely monitoring each of the sectors’ consultations and the subsequent procedures, defending the rights and interests of employers in this matter.
The Department will be held accountable for any and all decisions made in preparation for these consultations, as well as any legislative or executive steps taken thereafter.
Despite the ‘consultations’ only being, in all probability, tick-box exercises for the Department, all designated employers should attend these consultations to recount from their perspective the challenges they are facing with this counter-productive legislation.
