This month, Bloemfontein motorists can bid a fond farewell to Bruno Burri, the esteemed Free State Vice Chair of the Motor Industry Workshop Association (MIWA) and owner of SwedoTech Services. A stalwart of the automotive industry, Bruno's journey is one of passion, dedication, and immense contribution to both MIWA and the broader automotive sector.

Bruno's story began in 1980 when he entered the industry as an apprentice at Mercedes-Benz in Bloemfontein. Over the years, he amassed invaluable experience at leading automotive brands, including VW and Volvo, before launching his own business, SwedoTech Services, in 1999. Through sheer determination and hard work, Bruno built a successful workshop that became a beacon of excellence in the Free State, consistently earning accolades such as the five-star workshop rating and recognition through local competitions.

Beyond his professional success, Bruno's commitment to mentorship has left an indelible mark on the industry. Over the past 25 years, he has trained and qualified more than 20 apprentices, helping secure the future of skilled motor mechanics in South Africa. He also played a pivotal role in fostering a sense of community among workshop owners, advocating for collaboration and problem-solving within MIWA.

Reflecting on his journey, Bruno remains modest about his contributions, emphasizing teamwork and shared success. “It’s never about individual achievements but rather about bringing people together and finding the best solutions as a collective,” he says.

The good news for motorists is that Bruno has handed over the reigns of his business to Henk Pretorious who has worked with Bruno for over a decade. He is confident about the ongoing success of the business under Henk’s watchful eye. “I believe smaller, self-owned workshops are the future of the industry. MIWA’s support is invaluable, providing resources and guidance that are critical to the success of independent workshops and this is only going to strengthen in the coming years.”

Dewald Ranft, Chairman of MIWA, commends Bruno for his remarkable impact: "Well done on creating and leaving a legacy behind. You are truly loved throughout the industry, especially in the motor trade. Your advice has always been worth its weight in gold. Thank you, not just for your leadership, but also for the personal friendship, which I know will continue for years to come."

As Bruno steps into retirement, he looks forward to a new chapter filled with art, 4x4 adventures, and travels across South Africa with his wife, Michelle. He takes pride in knowing that his daughters are also thriving, with one pursuing a career in Milan and the other progressing in the automotive industry.

His message to those in the industry remains timeless, "Stay united and supportive. The future lies in collaboration. Together, with MIWA, we can overcome any challenge."

Bruno’s legacy will continue to inspire MIWA and the broader automotive community for years to come. His dedication to fostering mentorship, excellence, and camaraderie has made a lasting difference — a true testament to a career well-lived and a legacy well-earned.
