Potential drastic increase in import duties

The South African steel industry is already burdened by high steel prices, among others as a result of existing import duties aimed at protecting AMSA.

The following news may therefore come as a shock to the steel downstream:

Notice has just been received of further potential (anti-dumping) duties of between 15 to 24% in respect of imports from Japan, 21 to 30% from Taiwan, and 72% from China.

The introduction of these duties will have a severe impact on the steel downstream.

As a result of this, we have requested Donald MacKay from XA Global Trade Advisors to brief NEASA members on the impact hereof, and actions we should take going forward. Mr MacKay will probably also be requested to make submissions to the International Trade and Administration Commission (ITAC) in this regard.

This briefing will take place on 1 October 2024 at 09h00 via Zoom Meeting. Please click here to register to attend.
