Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM), in support of the South Africa Sports Association for the Physically Disabled (SASAPD), today handed over a brand-new Toyota Quantum to the Frances Vorwerg School for scholars with Cerebral Palsy and Learning Disabilities.
The Johannesburg South based school was announced as the prize winner of a brand-new Toyota Quantum for having the top performing para-athletes at the 2024 Toyota SASAPD National championships, which were hosted between 21 and 25 March in the Free State. This auspicious occasion also reinforces the ongoing relationship between TSAM and SASAPD which is aimed at supporting the federation’s ambition to promote sporting codes offered at the Paralympic-level for local athletes living with physical disabilities and visual impairments.
“I would like to thank Toyota SA and SASAPD on behalf of the staff, learners and parents of Frances Vorwerg school for the Quantum minibus. This prize means so much to so many people as it will be beneficial for all our para-athletes and teams,” said Liezl Potgieter, the Head of the Sports Department.
During the handover ceremony, the scholars glared with excitement as the keys were handed over to the principal, Susan Viljoen.
“Now that we have won the Toyota Quantum, we will be able to expose our physically disabled athletes to many of the sport events that take place during the week. Sport builds character and nurtures a sense of being a part of a team and improves confidence and general health”, said Viljoen.
The longstanding partnership between TSAM and SASAPD aligns to the automaker’s Mobility for All philosophy. An ethos that aims to transform the way people move throughout the world and in doing so, create solutions to the mobility barriers that limit human potential.
Moekie Grobbelaar, SASAPD President, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to TSAM for their support. “I want to give a big thank you to Toyota South Africa Motors for having walked with SASAPD for the past 5 years. They have really become like family to us”.
