Taelo Mojapelo, CEO for bp Southern Africa

bp Southern Africa (bpSA) has been ranked a top 20 employer in South Africa by the prestigious Top Employers Institute – and is the only energy company to make the 2024 top 20 list.

“This is a proud achievement for us, as we are continuously reviewing and enhancing our people practices. Our aim is to ensure that we are able to attract and retain the best talent. We are pleased to have ranked well above the benchmark in the final scoring,” says Taelo Mojapelo, CEO for bp Southern Africa.

“In the 100 years that we have operated in SA, bpSA has become renowned for its service and product excellence, which attests to the efforts of our employees in moving the business forward,” Mojapelo added.

The Top Employers Institute certifies organisations based on its HR Best Practices Survey, which includes 20 topics, such as People Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Well-being.

Some of the areas where bpSA scored particularly highly were in employee engagement, health programmes, the amount of time that employees are allowed to work remotely, diversity and inclusion initiatives and its equitable hiring process.

“Exceptional times bring out the best in people and organisations,” says David Plink, CEO of the Top Employers Institute. “We have witnessed this in our Top Employers Certification Programme this year: exceptional performance from the certified Top Employers 2024. These employers have always shown that they care for the development and well-being of their people. By doing so, they collectively enrich the world of work.”
