Hyundai Automotive South Africa has donated another H-100 – also known as the popular “Bakkie” – to the Gift of the Givers Foundation to assist them with distribution of food and household items to people who are in dire need.

It is the fourth H-100 Bakkie donated by Hyundai Automotive SA to Gift of the Givers, which uses the vehicles in their drive to get food to communities where families do not have an income and suffer food shortage.

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Hyundai Automotive SA has donated ten vehicles – including an H-1 Bus and two Grand i10 Cargo panel vans – to Gift of the Givers and FoodForward South Africa, another organisation that distributes food to communities where there is a desperate need for food.

All the H-100 Bakkies have been fitted with closed canopies donated by Beekman, which shares a holding company, Motus, with Hyundai Automotive South Africa.

“We are proud to make a contribution to the wonderful effort of Gift of the Givers to bring urgent relief to fellow South Africans who are experiencing hunger and hardship due to circumstances that are out of their control,” said Stanley Anderson, sales and operations director of Hyundai Automotive SA. “Our initiative forms part of the Hyundai Motor Company’s global drive to improve the lives of people in need.”

In 2020 Hyundai Automotive SA donated two H-100 Bakkies and an H-1 9-seater bus to Gift of the Givers as part of its Covid-19 social investment. This was followed in 2021 with the donation of two more H-100 Bakkies with canopies from Beekman.

The mission of Gift of the Givers, a non-governmental organization started by Dr Imtiaz Sooliman in 1992, is to provide nutritious food and other essential items to impoverished children and families who are suffering in South Africa, and whose circumstances have become even more dire due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Gift of the Givers has worked in many countries around the world and is the largest disaster relief group of African origin.
