The Road to the 2020 World Car Awards began yesterday at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) with the celebration of the all-electric Jaguar I-PACE as the triple winner of three 2019 World Car Awards (World Car of the Year, World Green Car and World Car Design of the Year) in keeping with World Car’s annual tradition of officially launching the next awards season in the exhibit of a current year’s winner.
The Road to the World Car Awards is an annual journey that follows more than 80 of our international jurors as they test-drive, and vote on, the eligible vehicles for the 2020 awards season. The provisional list of eligible vehicles is now posted to our web site: worldcarawards.com
There are several stops along the road. One of the first will be in Los Angeles for our sixth annual “L.A. Test Drives” event running from November 16th – 20th where our jurors will have the chance to test-drive the eligible vehicles that may not be available in their home markets. The test-drive event is hosted exclusively by ZF.
The World Car Finals countdown will begin in late January 2020 as the jurors vote for their favourites and their confidential ballots are tabulated by the international accounting firm KPMG. First the Top 10 and Top 5 in each category will be announced on Tuesday, February 4, 2020; followed by the Top Three in the World finalists at the Geneva International Motor Show on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.
The journey’s grande finale will take place when the winners are officially declared in all five categories at an awards ceremony and press conference that will open the New York International Auto Show on April 8, 2020. This year marks the 15th year of the World Car Awards’ partnership with the New York show.
Then it is back to the London Motor & Tech show in May where the 2020 winners announced at the New York show will be celebrated. And a glimpse of the 2021 contenders will be offered.
The Road to the World Car Awards journey and the awards program would not be possible without the support of our partners: Autoneum, Cision Insights, KPMG, the New York International Auto Show, Newspress and ZF. Thank you.
Swiss-based Autoneum joined the World Car Awards as a Presenting Partner in 2014. The company shares World Car’s commitment to innovation and excellence on a global scale. On the occasion of today’s eligibility announcement, Autoneum CEO Martin Hirzel said: “Once again, the contenders are testimony to our innovation leadership: Most of them benefit from Autoneum’s innovation leadership in thermal and acoustic management. The World Car Awards also confirm our forward-looking approach: Eligible e-models feature Autoneum components as well. Welcoming our industry’s transformation early on, we today supply environmentally sustainable, lightweight components for most electric models available worldwide.”
