Bakwena completes successful women’s month campaign

Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Pty) Ltd (Bakwena) in partnership with PinkDrive and the North West Department of Health, held another successful annual breast, testicular and prostate cancer campaign during the month of August for Women’s Month.

Charmaine van Wyk, public relations manager at Bakwena, says the first phase of the campaign kicked off in Dinokana and Zeerust during the week 12 to 16 August where 427 community members were examined and educated about breast, prostate and testicular cancer. The team also carried out 122 PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) tests on men over the age of 40 and mammograms on 10 women, who were either older than 40 or had lumps identified.

The campaign continued with the second phase on the 26 to 29 August in Groot Marico and Swartruggens whereby 150 community members were examined and educated and another 21 PSA tests were carried out as well as 10 mammograms.

In conjunction with the campaigns, 1 185 boys and 2 231 girls from the surrounding schools from grade 7 to 11 were educated on the signs and symptoms too look out for when it comes to breast, testicular and prostate cancer.
