Midas donates books to the value R60 000 to Siphetu Primary School

Reggies Midas Benoni donated books to the value of R60 000 to Siphetu Primary School, a local government school.

According to Department of Education, a staggering 86% of public schools in South Africa lack proper library facilities. Over 78% of children fail to read with comprehension at grade 4 level, this is according to a recent Progress in International Reading Literacy Study report.

Midas acknowledges the tremendous need for libraries in schools and communities across South Africa. Shannon Drake, Midas National Franchise Manager says “As responsible citizens, we all have a duty towards the upliftment of disadvantaged communities. It’s imperative to not only recognise the potential of every South African, but also their right to have opportunities in order to optimise their potential.”

Midas has partnered with Qualibooks, a registered service provider to the Department of Education (National; Provincial; schools direct) as well as the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture to ensure that that every child at the school will have access to fun reading resources, this is a critical cornerstone of a well-rounded education.

We are so happy you’ve come to our school and recognized us. By bringing us these books, you are changing the world through reading. The reason why our learners are failing, is because they are unable to read. If they are able to read and have the resources, they will be able to pass. You are enabling this. We are appreciative and say thank you!” concludes Mr Madike, Principal at Siphetu Primary School.
