On Tuesday, May 28 Goodyear South Africa reached another milestone on its journey to improve employee wellness when the multinational company revealed the recently upgraded on-site canteen at the manufacturing facility in Uitenhage.
The ribbon cutting ceremony took place during the lunch rush. Upon entering the upgraded facility for the first time, employees were welcomed by the mouthwatering aroma of a meal inspired by Chef Reuben Riffel. Reuben Riffel, who was in attendance, is a South African celebrity chef, restaurateur, and media personality known for his food-focused television shows, advertisements and cookbooks.
Group Managing Director for Goodyear South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, Darren Hayes-Powell, together with colleagues from Europe, Middle East and Africa region were in attendance and proudly cut the ribbon to usher employees in to see the improved canteen. "It gives us great pleasure to unveil The GoodLife Café, a place we hope will help all our employees to make better meal choices" said Hayes-Powell.
The GoodLife Café, named by a Goodyear employee, now includes healthier meal options as well as a small convenience store. The new look and feel of the canteen aim to provide employees with a space to relax and re-energize before returning to work after a good meal.
Hayes-Powell encouraged Goodyear employees that in conjunction with choosing a healthy meal option provided by the new look and feel cafeteria, they also needed to make use of the on-site gym which was officially opened for use by Goodyear employees in March of this year. "As a Company, it is important for us to build a culture where our teams are energized and engaged and benefit from the work-life balance platforms provided to them", concluded Hayes-Powell.
