Michelin introduces the new Michelin Primacy 4 in Southern Africa – safe when new, safe when worn

Michelin, the world’s leading tyre-technology leader, today announced the availability of MICHELIN PRIMACY 4 tyres in the Southern Africa region. True to its mission of sustainable mobility, this latest update to the popular PRIMACY range succeeds the extremely popular PRIMACY 3 and is designed for use with hatchbacks, entry to premium sedans and cross-overs. The MICHELIN PRIMACY 4 raises the standard in safety and performance, giving motorists both peace of mind in wet and dry road conditions, and exceptional value for money.
Compared to its direct competitors, the MICHELIN PRIMACY 4 lasts an average of 18,000 kilometres more. The tyre simplifies the reading of its wear level; in addition to the presence of a traditional wear indicator on the shoulder, it also has a MICHELIN marking at the bottom of the tread grooves. These two methods allow motorists to quickly and simply identify the level of wear of their tyres.

Regional Director: Southern Africa at Michelin South Africa, Gaganjot Singh, said, “We are excited to bring the MICHELIN PRIMACY 4 to Southern Africa. It took three years to fully develop this tyre and the result is truly a category-defining product that improves on performance and safety capabilities by a longshot. At Michelin, we are committed to deliver long-lasting performance from the first to the last kilometer and the MICHELIN PRIMACY 4 will provide motorists the pleasure of driving without compromising on performance, safety and longevity. This update is a concrete demonstration of our group strategy, that consumers must be able to drive safely, throughout the lifespan of a tyre, right down to the legal wear indicator of 1.6 mm.”

The PRIMACY range is underpinned by its promise of safety – “safe when new, safe when worn.” The MICHELIN PRIMACY 4 lives this promise, and elevates category performance with in both dry and wet roads, both when new and worn.

Several Michelin patented technologies have been combined to provide this range high performance. A new rubber compound is used in the update, enabling it to deliver strong traction and reliable braking performance throughout its lifespan. The tread pattern is manufactured with an optimised geometric sculpture that allows for quick and efficient water evacuation, greatly diminishing the risk of aquaplaning. The tread pattern’s new design reveals squarer and less tapered grooves, and the result is solid braking performance in wet conditions. A snapshot of its performance:

  • The tyre brakes on average 0.8m shorter than its direct competitors in dry conditions
  • In wet conditions, the tyre brakes, on average, 0.9m shorter than its direct competitors, and when tested in worn conditions, the braking distance is 2.8m shorter than the average of competitor variants

The MICHELIN PRIMACY 4 is already OE homologated by Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo and Jaguar for some of their vehicle models in specific markets across the world. In various African markets, some of the replacement market vehicle fitments of MICHELIN PRIMACY 4 include vehicles ranging from Audi A4, Lexus ES350, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Volkswagen Passat, Kia Sportage, Ford Fusion, Hyundai Tucson, among others. The tyre is available from TyrePlus outlets and leading tyre dealers countrywide and remains at the same price point as the previous variant.
