Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (PTY) LTD (SRSA) has announced the winner of its Dunlop Easter Competition. Fred Kekana of Johannesburg is the proud owner of a brand-new Toyota Fortuner 2.8 GD6 Auto.
Fifty-three-year-old father of three, Kekana bought four tyres for his Toyota Corolla at Gang Racing Dunlop Zone in Krugersdorp. “I feel extremely humbled, honoured and loved by God. Winning this car was an answer to my prayers,” he said.
Kekana and his family suffered a spate of car theft at their home in Westonaria, Johannesburg in 2017, leaving his wife and children traumatised. After bypassing the security system and motorised gate at his home, car thieves stole a Toyota Run X in July and then a Toyota Corolla in September. The Corolla was eventually recovered and returned to his home with multiple faults.
“I can’t wait to drive down to our favourite coastal city, Durban with my family in September. I have the utmost confidence in Dunlop tyres to get us there safely because I have been using them since 1996 and they have never failed me. I can always count on their quality and durability,” he said. “As a loyal Toyota customer, I am thrilled that my stolen Toyotas have been replaced by the top of the range Fortuner!” he said enthusiastically.
The competition, which gave customers a chance to win the once in a lifetime grand prize of a Toyota Fortuner 2.8GD6 by purchasing two or more Dunlop or Sumitomo branded tyres, attracted thousands of entries. It was rolled out by SRSA across Dunlop Zone and Dunlop Express stores in South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland.
The Toyota Fortuner is OE specified with Dunlop’s 18-inch derivatives. This means that SRSA meets Toyota’s stringent performance characteristics for the 265/60R18 110H Grandtrek AT25.
“It gives us great pleasure to hand over the Toyota Fortuner to Mr. Kekana because he has been a loyal customer to the Dunlop brand for over 20 years,” said Yvette Govender, Marketing and Business Development Director, SRSA. “We are confident that he and his family will enjoy how the Toyota Fortuner can transform seamlessly from a sophisticated urban warrior to a fierce bush conqueror with Dunlop tyres. The tyre combines all three critical benefits of SUV/pick up tyres namely strong side wall, off-road and on road performance and better puncture resistance - making it perfect for his next road trip,” Govender said.
Kekana, a General in the South African Police Services has been living in Johannesburg since he joined the South African Police Service in 1984. An upstanding member of the community and devout member of the Methodist church, Kekana also enjoys going to the gym daily and watching his favourite soccer team - Kaizer Chiefs.
