Champion stays ahead of the trend towards low viscosity oils

Today’s engines are becoming smaller while they are still expected to produce more power, reduce CO2 emissions, and offer greater fuel economy. These developments put more strain on the engine, including the oil that runs it.

We see new specifications and requirements are being presented, mainly pushing for an increased demand for low viscosity lubricants.

With more than 65 years of experience, Champion Lubricants remains at the forefront of the new developments surrounding today’s engines and brings the market the groundbreaking lubricants that perfectly fit the requirements of the modern engines!

Smaller engines, lower fuel consumption, thinner engine oils

The car industry’s trend towards smaller engines is more present than ever, and it’s here to stay. Driven by an increasing concern over emissions and fuel economy, this evolution towards engine downsizing has impacts on market expectations from engine oils, as well.

In fact, significant innovations are needed in the lubricants world to enable the implementation of very promising low-friction and high-efficiency engine technologies. One of the most visible trends in this direction is the increasing popularity of low viscosity lubricants.

To keep up with the requirements of modern engines, the viscosity of the oil is ideally expected to be as thin as possible (0W30, 0W20, and even 0W16) and at the same time the oil film has to be even much stronger than previous 5W40 viscosity oils in order to be able to protect the engine parts at every moment.

Concrete specifications, thinner oil

A good example of that is the ACEA C5 specification of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA). ACEA C5 requires a strong fuel economy and encourages the use of thinner lubricants, which guarantees fuel economy from the moment you start the engine.

As a brand constantly breaking new grounds, Champion Lubricants has demonstrated its capacity to keep up with these new trends by launching a number of new low viscosity lubricants - 0W30 and 0W20 - that meet the most demanding market requirements such as ACEA C5 among many others and fulfill the needs of the automotive professionals and end consumers.
