Sam says it feels like home

The Toyota Corolla Sedan is flipping notions of what cars in this segment should be, on its head. So much attention and detail is put into creating a car of ultimate comfort and luxury that you cannot quickly forget the Corolla Sedan. Add the confident and capable drive, and it might just one of the best sedans available.

The drive

Toyota delivers all that drivers have come to expect from the brand in their sedan. It handles confidently, makes it easy to reach your required power whether you’re on a flat open road or overtaking on a steep hill. Either way, the car feels like there is so much more to give in whatever driving scenario you find yourself.

The tested Corolla Sedan was the 2.0-litre ‘Dynamic Force’ TNGA engine (as first seen on RAV4) which provides 125 kW and 200 Nm – with a strong focus on fuel efficiency.

There are two transaxle options, a 6-speed manual or 10-speed Shiftmatic CVT. Updates to the design of the vehicles also contributes to the handling agility and responsiveness when driving.

A reduction in the body weigh contributes to the additional fuel savings. Fuel consumption for the 2.0-litre manual is set at 6.5 and the CVT at 6.0 l/100 km. Our fuel consumption was 9.4L/100km with a range of different driving styles and conditions. It is still quite heavy for this segment.

The design

Toyota keeps upping their game when it comes to exterior design.

The sedan borrows from the hatch when it comes to the front-end design. It features a prominent lower apron, sculpted headlights and flowing three-box design.

Yet, it still has its own distinctive design as many of the new Toyota designs do. Toyota describes the car as emanating ‘visual aggressiveness’ which the designers have successfully achieved.

It is a sedan, traditionally a vehicle design that attracts less attention than hatches, yet, this sedan defies this, creating a sexy, powerful looking car.

The interior balances classiness with sexiness. This is created in particular with the blue contrast stitching.

The elegant ribbed pattern and bucket-like profile lends a premium feel to the cabin. A new-age synthesized fabric called RezatecTM creates seats with the comfort of fabric but the premium feel of leather.

All the latest tech is available in the Corolla Sedan. There is Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and touchscreen interface, climate control with Eco mode, a reverse camera, power seat adjustment, one-touch functionality for the electric windows, keyless entry, tilt & telescopic steering adjustment, steering switches and cruise control.

Safety

Drivers can feel confident that their Corolla Sedan can deliver them to their location safely with a range of safety features including, active electronic safety aids (ABS, EBD, BAS, VSC, HAC) and an impact absorbing bodyshell. The flagship XR grade receives Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) – a full complement of active driver aids.

The Corolla Sedan is perfect for the driver with a small family or someone who spends a fair amount of time behind the wheel. Plenty of thought and effort has been exerted into making the Corolla Sedan a highly enjoyable car to drive.
